BASIC INFO
1st June to 30th of June 2024
Taattinen Farmhouse
Koverintie 23, 21160, Merimasku, Finland
During the residency, you would create a new body of work.
After the residency, the works or work in process display will be exhibited in the Taattinen Art Gallery in July.
During the residency, in addition to your own project, we would ask you to run a ceramics-based workshop for local residents. The workshop should be a 1-2 day workshop depending on the need for firing and glazing. (First-day max five hours, Second-day max three hours)
Residency offers:
1.
Private Room at Taattinen Guest House during your stay
with shared kitchen and bathroom with other residency participants.
2.
Working space + continuous access to the ceramic workshop.
3.
Supply of local red clay and basic glazes.
Self-funded:
1. Travel
2. Food
3. Material needed for your own medium other than local red clay and basic glazes
Materials available:
Clay: The residency offers two different clay bodies. 1. Finnish wild clay from Kultela, Somero (earthenware terracotta that fires up to 1050c.) 2. Wild clay from the Taattinen Farm (earthenware terracotta that fires up to 1050c.) Glaze: Transparent.
Workshop:
The workshop has a kiln, a potter’s wheel, an extruder, a slab roller, and basic hand tools for clay working. The workshop is in an industrial building where the farm's machinery was previously kept. It has been renovated and now consists of a ceramics workshop and a big open workspace that facilitates working with bigger-scale artwork.
Accommodation:
Each artist will have their own private room in the farm’s B&B. You will have a shared shower room (with washing machine) and shared toilet with the three other residency rooms. The shared kitchen for the residency is located in the studio building. The nearest grocery store is about 3km from the farm, accessible by car, bus, or bike that you can borrow from the farm. 1 km away, you can find a farm produce shop where you can buy fresh veggies, smoked salmon, strawberries, and eggs from nearby farms. Nearby cities are Naantali and Turku, with access by bus or by car.
Getting here:
If arriving from abroad, we recommend flying to Helsinki, the Finnish capital. The farm is best accessible by car. If arriving by public transport, we recommend taking a bus to Turku. From Turku, there is a bus to the city of Naantali and from Naantali, a local bus to Merimasku.
