EARTH BUILDING WORKSHOP
Embark on a unique journey with artist Davide Ronco at Taattinen Farm. This one-day earth-building workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn ancient and vernacular building techniques, such as rammed earth, Adobe, Pisé, or Cob, directly from the artist himself.
During the workshop, together with Davide, you will analyse the local soil (clay, sand, stones, gravel, etc) with simple tests, checking the soil's mixtures and proportions. These tests, which have been used for thousands of years, will give insights into creating the earth mixture for the building modules cast during the workshop. After analysing the soil, you will cast the local earth into a previously prepared moulds; mixing the material, pressing it into the molds, and subsequently creating the building modules.
After the modules are done, they are left to dry under the sun for a few days to reach their proper strength before they can be used.
The modules you create in the workshop will not only be part of an elaborate artwork that Davide will create on-site at the residency but also serve as a tangible memory of this unique project. As a special token, you will be able to take home with you a sample of the building blocks, a physical representation of your participation in this creative endeavor.
The images attached are from a previous workshop of Davide Ronco and for reference of the process. The modules created during the Taattinen workshop might differ in shape or look, as Davide will design the shapes during the residency in June.
Vernacular architecture can be defined as a local or regional construction that uses traditional materials and resources from the area where the building is located.
MAARAKENNUSTYÖPAJA
Tervetuloa tutkimaan paikallista maaperää taiteilija Davide Roncon maarakennuskurssille. Tämä yhden päivän työpaja tarjoaa harvinaisen mahdollisuuden oppia muinaisia maarakennustekniikoita, kuten Rammed Earth, Adobe, Pisé tai Cob, suoraan taiteilijalta itseltään.
Työpajan aikana yhdessä Daviden kanssa analysoitte paikallista maaperää (savi, hiekka, kivet, sora jne.) yksinkertaisin testeillä, joilla tarkistatte maaperän koostumuksen ja laadun. Nämä tuhansia vuosia vanhat testit ohjaavat maaseoksen tekemisessä, jota käytetään rakennusmoduuleihin, joita valmistetaan työpajan aikana. Kurssi jatkuu Daviden ohjauksella paikallisen maan valamisella aiemmin valmistettuihin muotteihin.
Moduulit jätetään kuivumaan auringon alla muutamaksi päiväksi, jotta ne saavuttavat oikean vahvuuden ennen käyttöä.
Työpajassa valmistamasi rakennusmoduulit tulevat osaksi maataideteosta, jonka Davide luo paikan päällä Taattisten tilan taiteilijaresidenssissä. Lisäksi saat osan rakennusmoduuleista muistoksi osallistumisestasi tähän yhteisölliseen taideprojektiin.
Liitetyt kuvat ovat peräisin aiemmasta Davide Ronconin työpajasta. Taattisten tilalla luodut rakennusmoduulit voivat poiketa muodoltaan tai ulkoasultaan kuvista, sillä Davide suunnittelee moduulit kesäkuun residenssissä.
Kurssin ohjaus on Englanniksi.
